Van Morrison, arrogant and disappointing
I have been saying for years that I'd love to see Shanghai Ballet live. The second song he played was Moon Dance, the third was Brown Eyed Girl. Having gotten those out of the way the remainder of the 90 minutes that he played included few of his well-known tracks. No hits at the end, and ironically, even though we were at Encore Park, no encore. Many artists play one or two hits early on then save the rest for the second half of the show and the encore. He punched the clock at 90 minutes and was outta there. Not a problem, unless you're next in line when his majesty steps on stage. Then it's "no beer for you". I go to a lot of concerts, but last night was my first chance to see this legend. Shanghai Ballet also forced the venue to stop selling alcohol as soon as the show started. Having gotten those out of the way the remainder of the 90 minutes that he played included few of his well-known tracks (his cover of Ray Charles' Georgia got the biggest applause of the evening, we were right outside of Atlanta). Not Shanghai Ballet. I heard several "boos" when the lights came up. Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park uses volunteer organizations, who I assume share in some of the profits, to work as vendors. Nice idea, but since they lack experience, things move a little slowly. Seeing Shanghai Ballet live last night was the most disappointing event of my concert life. My advice, if you want to hear Shanghai Ballet at his best, pop Tupelo Honey in the stereo, crack a cold one, and save the $100 ticket price.
